# Appliance running cost

Canonical interactive tool: https://taskpencil.com/tools/appliance-running-cost/

Estimate daily, monthly, and yearly electricity costs from watts, usage hours, and your rate.

## Instructions

1. Enter your values in the labeled fields.

2. Results update automatically as inputs change. Review the result and assumptions.

3. Copy or print your result.

## Formula and example

Daily kWh = watts ÷ 1000 × hours per day × active duty cycle / 100. Cost = kWh × your electricity rate. A 1000 W appliance running 2 hours daily at 0.15 per kWh costs 0.30 daily, 9.00 per 30-day month, and 109.50 per 365-day year.

## Limits

Use the currency of your electricity rate. Wattage is assumed constant while active; duty cycle estimates the portion of scheduled time spent running. Excludes standby usage, fixed fees, taxes, seasonal changes, and time-of-use or tiered rates. Monthly and yearly figures assume the same daily usage. All processing is local; inputs are not stored or transmitted.
